Introduction

The 3CX Windows App is the modern and recommended softphone solution for Microsoft Windows, designed specifically for 3CX version 20. It replaces the legacy 3CX desktop app previously used with version 18.

Deployed through the Microsoft Store, this app benefits from enhanced security measures, as all applications are verified by Microsoft before publication.

With the 3CX Windows App, you can easily manage your status, calls, speed dials, address book, and more – all within an intuitive and user-friendly interface.

Installing the 3CX Windows App

Open the Microsoft Store on your desktop or laptop.

Use the search bar to find "3CX".

Click the Get button to download and install the app.

Tip: If you cannot find the app in the Store, ensure your Windows device is up-to-date with the latest version of the operating system.

Logging In and Provisioning

Once you have installed the Windows App, log in to your 3CX system with your normal credentials.  The web address will be included in the welcome email that you received when your user was first created.

This will look something like https://pucXXX.3cx.co.uk/ or https://pucXXX.3cx.uk/

Once you have logged in, go to the bottom left of the screen and select "Apps"

You should see

Select "Windows App" and then choose "Provision".  This page also includes a link to the Windows App in the Store.

You should now see that your extension is logged in and ready for use.

If you have any issues whilst installing or configuring the new Windows App, please reach out to your support team and we will be happy to assist.

Important Note on Legacy App

Once the new Windows App is up and running, we recommend uninstalling the legacy 3CX desktop app to avoid potential conflicts caused by running both apps simultaneously.

The legacy app will appear in Windows like this

While the legacy app may continue to work on older systems, it is no longer supported on 3CX version 20 and cannot be installed or configured on newer systems.

Audio Settings and Deskphone Control

The new 3CX Windows App retains much of the functionality of the previous desktop app, while offering a cleaner, modern interface. Most users will find it intuitive to navigate.

However, it is useful to know where the Settings menu can be access via the spanner icon at the bottom left of the App.

We would recommend that you check through the Audio Options to make sure the App is set up correctly to use your preferred audio hardware.

If you use a physical desktop phone with 3CX and want to use the App to control your deskphone instead of using it as a softphone, you will also find this option under Settings.
